About 60nm south of Noumea lies the Isle des Pins. It's outside the South Lagoon so you have to cross a bit of ocean to get here but we picked a very nice day to cruise across without any wind and no swell to speak of.

We were on the way to another anchorage when we spotted this place and decided to hang out for a few days. What a great decision! It's a lagoon surrounded by reefs with just a couple of entrances in. The snorkeling was superb, especially out by the pass. Under the surface we saw lots of pristine hard coral, tons of fish, had a few white tip sharks following us around and came pretty...

Our first normal anchorage after arriving here in New Caledonia. The past three weeks have been filled with rainy weather followed but a close brush with Cyclone Donna followed by more rain. Finally we are able to get out to the Southern Lagoon where all the best places are located.

Captain Andrea, aka the Samurai fisherman, now has a new alias: Ninja Shark diver! He's been wanting to do a hardcore dive with sharks for a while now, so we anchored in Beqa Lagoon and he took a couple dives with Beqa Lagoon Resort's dive centre. Wow! Huge Tiger sharks, Bull sharks, White Tip sharks, Black Tip sharks and millions of fish swirling around.

Our last scuba trip in Fiji was so many years ago, we were wondering if it was still going to be as beautiful as we remembered: we have not been disappointed! Even after the devastating Cyclone Wilson hit the islands last season, we've been so pleased to find wonderful places to dive and snorkel.

This is a really nice anchorage well out of the southeast wind and swell. Close by is some of the nicest snorkeling and diving we're had in Fiji (aside from our time diving Rainbow Reef).
