Anchorage at Baie De Povai, Bora Bora

We've found a number of nice anchorages here in Bora Bora and this one is one of our favorites. It's close to a really nice beach restaurant (Bloody Mary's Bar) as well as to our favorite diving and snorkeling area. We've got good holding and nice wind to keep us cool for sleeping at night.

The island of Bora Bora is more populated than the other places we've been over the past number of months and so the feeling of really 'being out there' is gone but it's definitely worth the visit. The side we're anchored on (the west side) is where all the yachts visit as the east side is too shallow for anything but a tender and is filled with five-star resorts. That doesn't mean it's bad on this side as we have a number of nice restaurants to choose from and pretty good WiFi coverage as well. And, you can never tie of looking at Mt. Otemanu at 727m the tallest peak on the island.

At anchor in Bora Bora The diving and snorkeling is really nice and we've been doing a dive a day while we're here seeing huge schools of eagle rays (30-40) flying by along with free-swimming giant morray eels (1.5 meters!) and tons of colorful reef fish too. The water is extremely clear and, of course, a very nice 27C temperature. Lots of other choices for yachts to anchor closer to shore in shallower water too so be sure to come visit this place! We'll be doing our final provisioning before we leave French Polynesia and begin our passage to Tonga next week. Be sure to watch for our passage post coming up to see what islands we'll be visiting on the way to Tonga. We're got some really exciting and special places ahead!
