Anchorage at Pulau Kenawel, Indonesia

20 meters

The hits just keep on comin'... Every anchorage just gets more beautiful here in Indonesia! Although we miss the charm and local community of Banda Naira the scenery here is outstanding with at least 3-4 volcanos as well as stunning snorkeling. Perhaps the best we've had in a very long time. The coral is pristine, tons of fish of all kinds and completely different than what we found back in Banda. Here, the coral is very shallow (1-3 meters) and the water the clearest we've seen typically with visibilities at least 30 m and sometimes much more. There is some current here so we've been timing our snorkeling around slack low tide and we do 1 hour either side of it with no problem. We did try to get a late afternoon snorkel in yesterday about 16:00 but as soon as Tracy got in the water she jumped out a minute later as 15 blacktip sharks came up out of the depth (perhaps heard her splashing around). The were 'frisky' as Tracy put it, loosely translated as 'they were too excited and nervous to be around' so out she came and we decided perhaps we'd forego the late afternoon snorkel!

There are lots of options when it comes to anchoring but we choose a more central location in about 20 meters of sand (yes, you can see the bottom and the anchor chain from the bow!). There are some exposed sand spits here as well that are submerged at hight tide. I also pulled the drone out so we could get some nice photos of FG and the surrounding reefs. Enjoy!!
